Local Events

During the summer, the whole of Tuscany is of course buzzing with events, exhibitions, festivals - one is never short of things to do. 

There are also local events - and below is short, but hopefully growing list...

Music Festivals:

-> Summer months A lot of music festivals take place here in Tuscany during the summer months – the Jazz festival in Pistoia, the blues festival in Porretta, opera in Pistoia - 
-> Summer months Summer music festival in Montecatini Terme
-> Music festivals in Italy
-> Puccini Festival in Viareggio

 

Palio and Costume:

-> Summer months Besides the world famous palio in Siena, there are smaller palios taking place in several towns, each with slight variations regarding rules and set-up.
-> start of July Lucca Palio - Palio di san Paolino. Parade and crossbow tournament
->  early July and mid August Siena Palio
-> late July Pistoia Palio
-> First Sunday in September Pescia Palio - pageant
        
-> late June Calcio Storicoe (football) in traditinal costumes - a mediaeval football match commemorating a similar match in  1530 in Florence
           
-> February Carnival

 

 

Food / Drink Festivals:

-> early February  Cioccolosità (chocholate festival) in Monsummano Terme
-> Last Sunday in May "Cantine Aperte" - every vineyard opens its doors for wine tasting
-> around the 16-26th June The Beer festival in Massa e Cozzile
-> end of June / early July Traversagne's Beer Festival
-> late July / early August Medieval festival in Massa e Cozzile
-> mid two weeks of August Vangile's town feast

 

 

Various Events:

-> Second Saturday after Easter. at Borgo a Mozzano near Lucca "La Baldoria" - A vast bonfire to celebrate the end of winter. 
           
-> The Sunday after Ascension Day In Florence "Festa del Grillo"-  This festival features a variety of stalls selling lucky singing crickets in cages, a tradition that dates back to the 19th century.
           
-> June 16 "Luminara" Thousand and thousands of candles light up the buildings of Pisa - beautiful.
